The experience focused on setting a clear rhythm for debate, applying procedure consistently, and giving delegates room to develop their positions on complex economic questions.

It called for close listening and precise interventions—keeping the committee moving while helping competing national interests become workable resolutions.

Issues on the table

01

Promoting transparency and fairness in international lending to avert debt crises in developing countries

Delegates examined how opaque loan terms, hidden debt, high interest costs, and unequal bargaining power can turn development financing into a sovereign-debt crisis. Debate focused on fuller disclosure, responsible lending and borrowing, fair conditionality, stronger debt-management capacity, and coordinated restructuring that protects both accountability and national development.

02

Addressing the disruption of legitimate trade by illicit markets

The committee considered how counterfeit goods, smuggling, illicit financial flows, and digitally enabled black markets exploit the same ports, payment systems, and supply chains used by legal commerce. Discussion weighed customs cooperation, shared intelligence, stronger institutions, traceable supply chains, and enforcement that protects trade without creating unnecessary barriers for developing economies.
